P1/2 took their PE lesson outside to make the most of the sunny weather. We played different games with the parachute, including Duck, Duck, Goose, balancing a ball and running underneath to find a new position. It was lots of fun! ๐
It was such a lovely day today, the P1/2 class thought they would have a break from all their hard work and enjoy a yummy ice-lolly outside in the sun. ๐
Last week the Nursery and P1/2 class headed off to Belfast Zoo for our school trip. The children and staff were very excited to go on the big bus and couldn't wait to get to the zoo. We loved seeing all the different animals. So many of the children had different favourites so it was hard to decide which they were most excited to see. Here are pictures of the P1/2 class having a great day out!
P1/2 had a great time this week learning how to make pancakes! We took turns doing the different parts of the pancake making process and carefully measured out the ingredients, sieved the flour and sugar, cracked the eggs and poured in the buttermilk. Lots of muscles were needed by everyone to whisk the pancake batter. But it was worth the effort when we sat down to eat the freshly cooked pancakes, yum yum ๐.
The children in P1/2 have been enjoying their music lessons. This week we had a look at some musical instruments, learnt their names and listened to how they sound๐ถ๐น. After that, the children had a go a playing their instruments to some music!
Santa came to visit us in school - and the excitement was wonderful to see! Great news everyone was on his 'Good List' so all the children received a gift from him. We sang him a couple of songs and sent him on his merry way to get the rest of his sleigh packed!!! Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!!!!
The P1/2 children are enjoying the start of their new topic 'People Who Help Us'. For the last two weeks we have been focusing on Healthcare workers such as Doctors, Nurses and Dentists. Here they are in playtime enjoying the different activities.
Here are some of our P1 children practising how to write the new sound 'c' we have been learning this week. Some of the children were using pastel crayons and black paper and some were writing in the paint on the table. Well done P1 - we certainly know how to write that letter c!
As part of our World Around Us topic 'Fairytales', one of the stories we focused on was 'The Gingerbread Man'. The children enjoyed making Gingerbread Men in class. We had to weigh out and sieve the ingredients, mix everything into a dough, roll out the dough and cut out the Gingerbread Men. Thankfully when we cooked them none of them ran off on us like the story!
This week as part of our World Around Us topic, we were learning about floating and sinking. The children really enjoyed our experiment where we had to make a prediction if an object was going to float and sink. They enjoyed watching the item go into the water and seeing if their prediction was right or wrong.
This week our focus has been on the 't' sound. The children have been discovering what things begin with our 't' sound. They have been learning to write their new letter in lots of different ways. Some of the children were also focusing on the number 4. Here are some pictures of how they have been learning.
As part of our World Around Us topic of Fairy tales, we have been focusing on the story of The Three Little Pigs. The children in P1/2 were experimenting with straw, sticks and bricks to see which were the best for building a house. The Big Bad Wolf aka Mrs Hunter came along and was able to blow down the straw and stick house. The brick house stood firm until the table got knocked and the house fell down! We then went out to look at the outside of our classroom and discovered that when it was built, the builders overlapped the brick. We tried to do that with our bricks and the house was much stronger now.
Learning how to write the letter a and the number 3
This week the children in P1 were learning all about the 'a' sound. We were finding things that began with the sound and sorting them. We then learnt how to write the sound and practised ourselves using different methods. The children were also learning about the number 3 and were busy writing their 3's.
FIRST WEEK IN P1/2
What a busy week we have had in P1 this week. It was lovely to welcome in 14 new P1 children to our class. They have been amazing, quickly settling into school and the hustle and bustle of a busy classroom. Here are some photos of them busy at play this week along with some of our P2 children.
