P2/3

Goodbye 🍼🚼

A final goodbye to such a wonderful bunch of children.  I have loved teaching them and wish them well for the rest of the year.  I hope everyone has a happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.
best wishes,
Mrs McNiece x

Take a look at some of our recent dinosaur-themed play in the P2/3 room.  We have had great fun digging for bones, excavating fossils, building dinosaur transporters, making prints in the dough and much more.

Primary 2/3 used clay to create their very own dinosaurs.  This involved skills of rolling, squashing, pinching and manipulating the clay to form a dinosaur model.  Once they were dried, we painted our dinosaurs.  Lastly, we used the App ‘Chatterpix’ to take a photo and record our voice which allowed our dinosaurs come to life.   This was a lot of fun! We even got to decorate our photos with stamps and filters.  Take a look below at some of our finished work. πŸ¦–πŸ¦•

Anti-bullying week ❀️

As part of anti-bullying week, we chatted about the difference between a kind and unkind friend.  We used the toothpaste experiment to show how difficult it is to take back hurtful words when we weren’t able to put the toothpaste back in the tube.  We then used Just2Easy to sort images of people being a good friend and a bad friend.

Gardening with Kieran 🌸🌺

What a lovely afternoon Primary 2 and 3 had with Kieran!  Kieran taught us all about bees and how they live off the flowers in our gardens.  The boys and girls got to plant their own flowers and take home a lovely pot.  A huge thank-you goes to Kieran for this wonderful experience.

Odd sock day 🧦

As part of anti bullying week, today was Odd Sock Day.  Everyone wore odd socks to represent how different and unique we all are.  We know it’s okay to be different!  We then used Just2Easy to design our own odd socks using the paint programme.

Remembrance Day Art❀️

Today we watched a lovely video illustrating the impact the war had on not only people, but animals too.  We then talked about the importance of the poppy and why people wear them.  After, the children made their own poppies by tearing up pieces of paper.

Using labels ✍️🏷

This week we have been looking at labels.  We know a label tells us what something is.  To get us started, the boys and girls labelled parts of Mrs McNiece!  We then worked with a partner to label various items around our classroom. We had to make sure each label was only 1 or 2 words long.

Science experiment πŸ‘©β€πŸ”¬πŸ‘¨β€πŸ”¬

Primary 2&3 have been looking at the traditional tale ‘The Three Little Pigs’ in Literacy.  For our World Around Us this week, we tested different materials to see which was strongest for building a house.  Mrs McNiece’s hairdryer was used as the Wolf to try and blow each house down.   Like the story, the house made of bricks stood still.

Adjectives 🐷🐺

Today for literacy we used the app Just2Easy to illustrate the Big Bad Wolf from our focus text ‘The Three Little Pigs’.  We then used the microphone to record ourselves using adjectives to describe him.

Nouns

Last week in literacy we were learning all about nouns.  We know a noun is a naming word such as the name of a person, place, thing or animal.  We worked together to sort nouns into these categories.  We were then challenged to think of more nouns and draw them under the correct heading.

Art πŸŽ¨πŸ‘©β€πŸŽ¨πŸ§‘β€πŸŽ¨

For the past two weeks, we have been focusing on the famous artist Kandinsky.  We looked at some of his work and realised he liked to paint with shapes and colours.  His work is what we call ‘abstract’.  So the boys and girls made their own versions of his famous ‘Squares with Concentric Circles’ using oil pastels and then cutting and sticking with coloured paper.

World Around Us 🌎

Today the boys and girls went for a walk around our local area looking for different types of houses.  We saw lots of terraced houses but very few semi-detached houses.

P.E. ⚽️🎽

We were working on our handling skills using the beanbags this week.  We had to aim and throw the beanbag at different targets, including a quoit and a ball.

World Around Us 🌎🏠

As part of our Houses and Homes topic, we worked in pairs to explore our local area (Bessbrook) on Google maps.  Not only were we able to strength our mouse skills, but we were able to spot various buildings and houses from Bessbrook.  Some children even found their own house! 🏠

Say “Cheese!”

Our first I.C.T. lesson involved using the iPads to take a selfie.  We had to ensure we only captured from our neck up.  We then used our selfies to draw a self-portrait.  πŸ“ΈβœοΈ
