Today, 19th November, children in P6/7 participated in two Internet Safety Workshops. We learned how to keep ourselves safe online by:
We learned that if someone says something to upset us or if we are worried about something online we should:
STOP, BLOCK AND TELL!
In the second workshop we learned about Cyberbullying. We learned that cyberbullying includes:
We read different scenarios which included elements of cyberbullying and discussed ways to respond. We learned that we should always:
TELL A TRUSTED ADULT!
We created a ‘Trust Tree’ on which we included the names of all the adults we can talk to if we need to.
Today, Thursday 13th November, P6/7 visited Red Branch Bushcraft in Forkhill. We learned different survival skills including how to build a shelter and start a fire using a ferro rod. It was great fun working outside with each other!
Today in class P6/7 attended a virtual talk with the author Marita Conlon McKenna. We are currently reading her book ‘Under the Hawthorn Tree’ so we were very excited to hear Marita talk about her life, career and where she finds the inspiration for her writing. As a class we came up with some questions we could ask. During the Q&A session Kayla asked a question about life as an author. It was a very interesting and fun talk with a real-life author!
Today in class we learned about circumference. We learned that Queen Victoria was 150cm tall with a circumference of almost 140cm! We worked with a partner to create our own measurements of Queen Victoria!
To kick off Anti-Bullying Week (November 10th - 14th) we wore odd socks to school. By wearing odd socks we celebrate individuality and diversity. We know that it is okay to be different. We’re looking forward to completing some activities this week to celebrate Anti-Bullying Week.
On Friday we said goodbye to one of our classmates. We had a party in our class and surprised him with a beautiful card and treats. We wish him well on his exciting new adventure! We’ll miss you!
Today, 10th November, we used the iPads to demonstrate our understanding of speech marks. We played some games in which we had to correctly identify direct and reported speech. It was great fun, especially when we saw our names on the leaderboard!
In P6/7 we have been busy using Art to show our learning. In PDMU we have been learning about the different ways in which we are unique. We surrounded a photograph of ourselves with words and images describing our talents. It was great fun to reflect on all our skills and talents!
In World Around Us we have been learning about The Victorians. We examined some examples of Victorian silhouettes. Afterwards we traced side profile pictures of ourselves and then used black paint to fill in the image. In some of our silhouettes we experimented with the use of space to show aspects of our clothes. Can you recognise the P6/7 student from the silhouette?!
We have been learning how to use apostrophes to show ownership. In class we played a game online where we had to identify if the apostrophe had been used correctly in a sentence. We had to get as many answers correct within the time limit. It was great fun!
