๐Ÿ‘”๐Ÿฉด Uniform Reminder ๐Ÿ“ข๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

Just a friendly heads-up that students are expected to wear their complete school uniforms every day. If they sport trainers for the journey, a quick change into school shoes upon arrival is required.

For those participating in after-school clubs, the switch to P.E. kits or club wear happens right at the day's end, just before the club begins.

In P5/6, mark your calendar! The designated P.E. day is Tuesday only, meaning no P.E. kit is needed on any other day. ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ๐Ÿ‘•

Linking Generations Workshop

Students in P5/6 took part in an Anti-Ageism workshop with ‘A New Town’ Men’s Shed from Newtownhamilton this afternoon.

They were tasked with creating a number of Eco-items including Bat boxes, bird houses and also bug boxes! It was hard work putting together the timber puzzles and screwing them all together.

Thank you so much to Peter from the Men’s Shed and Linking Generations Northern Ireland for securing funding for this very valuable workshop! They students absolutely loved it and can’t wait to do something similar again. This was a great workshop as a part of Global Intergenerational Week #GIW24

Our Eco-Council will now get to work thinking about the best locations for these on our site.

PDMU - NSPCC - P.A.N.T.S

In PDMU this week, we explored the PANTS acronym from the NSPCC.

We discussed the PANTS rules and who our safe & trusted adults are.

Science - Sustainable Farming!

As a continuation of Science week, students in P5/6 have been creating some sustainable farms on Minecraft Education. We had to consider: livestock, crops, renewable energy and providing enough space in our farms for everything we need!

It was a little figdety, but great fun!

๐ŸŒŠ WAU - Lego Dams ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

๐Ÿ“… This week, we've been wrapping up our study on Water by building Lego dams & putting them to the test. We prepared two big containers: one filled with water and the other with room for our dams & characters.

๐Ÿ’ก The big takeaway? Your dam has to be sturdy! Otherwise, it'll just drift away. We've also picked up some useful pointers for future runs of this activity!

๐Ÿ˜„ Loads of fun!

๐Ÿ”ฌ Science - Disappearing Dinos ๐Ÿฆ•

๐Ÿ“… This week in Science, we delved into the mystery of what happened to the dinosaurs. Students tapped into iPads to gather facts from prompts on our whiteboard. Got any fascinating dino facts you want to share with a nearby adult? ๐Ÿค”

๐Ÿ“š P5/6 Class Immersed in World Book Day Festivities! ๐ŸŽ‰

What a thrilling World Book Day it has been for the vibrant students of P5/6 Class! ๐ŸŒŸ From the crack of dawn, the corridors echoed with excitement as students streamed in, donning an array of colourful costumes inspired by their favourite literary characters. The school was transformed into a kaleidoscope of literary wonders, igniting the imagination of all who entered.

The day kicked off with live lessons that transported the students into the realms of their beloved books. From exploring magical lands to solving mysteries alongside their literary heroes, every moment was an adventure! The interactive sessions not only captivated their minds but also fostered a love for learning through the pages of literature.

The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the World Book Assembly, it was a celebration of the power of storytelling to unite and inspire.

But the excitement didn't end there! P5/6 Class engaged in an exhilarating interactive quiz that put their literary knowledge to the test. From classic tales to modern masterpieces, they displayed an impressive understanding of the diverse world of literature.

As the day drew to a close, the students gathered to share their thoughts and reflections on the books they had devoured.

World Book Day may be over, but its spirit lingers on in the hearts and minds of the students of P5/6 Class. Through live lessons, captivating assemblies, interactive quizzes, and thoughtful reflections, they have embraced the joy of reading and embarked on endless adventures between the pages of their favourite books. Here's to a future filled with imagination, creativity, and the magic of storytelling! ๐Ÿ“–โœจ

WAU - Water

Students in P5/6 were researching all of the different types of dams. We're bless to have an amazing structure nearby in Spelga Dam and they are some awesome structures at Silent Valley too!

Numeracy - Understanding volume๐Ÿงฑ

In the classroom, P5/6 students have been diving into the world of volume, exploring how to measure the amount of space occupied by a three-dimensional object. ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ“ฆ They've been getting creative, stacking cubes and arranging them to form various shapes, from simple cubes to more complex structures. ๐Ÿงฑโž•๐Ÿงฑ=โฌœ๏ธ๐Ÿ—๏ธ

As they construct these shapes, they're not just playing with blocks—they're actively learning about volume through exploration and experimentation. ๐Ÿ’ญ๐Ÿ” They're counting cubes meticulously, understanding that each cube represents a unit of volume. 1๏ธโƒฃ, 2๏ธโƒฃ, 3๏ธโƒฃ... they're adding them up to find the total volume of their creations. ๐Ÿ”ข๐Ÿ”

But it doesn't stop there! These budding mathematicians are challenged to solve problems ๐Ÿงฉ๐Ÿ’ก that require them to apply their understanding of volume. They're tasked with real-world scenarios where they have to determine the volume of irregular shapes or figure out how much space is left when objects are combined or removed. ๐ŸŒ

โ›ช๏ธ๐Ÿ“– Religion Exploration: Joshua & the Walls of Jericho (Joshua 6: 1-20) ๐ŸŽบ๐Ÿฐ

In our religious studies, we immersed ourselves in the intriguing tale of Joshua and the Walls of Jericho. ๐ŸŒŸ๐Ÿ“œ

The narrative unfolded as the people silently marched around the city once for six consecutive days, with the priests blowing their trumpets. ๐Ÿšถ‍โ™‚๏ธ๐ŸŽบ On the seventh day, they circled the city six times in silence, and on the seventh round, a mighty shout echoed, causing the walls to crumble. ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿฐ

Inspired by this profound story, we crafted our own trumpets, mimicking those played by the priests on their journey to the momentous collapse of the walls. ๐ŸŽจ๐ŸŽบ What do you think of our trumpet designs? ๐Ÿค”๐ŸŒˆ

What is Accelerated Reader?

AR is part of the Renaissance Reading software package recently adopted by the school

to encourage and enhance reading, measure individual readers' growth, and ensure quality reading experiences for all students. ๐Ÿ“ˆโœจ It allows personalized learning targets to be set up, and progress can be easily monitored.

๐Ÿ  How can parents contribute from home?

Just like any skill, performance improves with practice. While we provide ample reading opportunities at school, your support in encouraging reading at home is invaluable. ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ’•

๐Ÿ”— Logging on to Home Connect with your child at home is a fantastic way to dive into discussions about the books they've read and monitor their overall reading progress. ๐Ÿก๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿ“Š Encourage your child to read with you, and engage in discussions about what they've read. ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

A child might decode and read the words but understanding is key, so asking questions about the book is essential. Reading together, regardless of age, plays a crucial role in developing strong reading skills and nurturing a lifelong love for reading. ๐Ÿ“šโค๏ธ
