Music Workshop

Today, 25th March, P6/7 participated in an African drumming workshop. We learned the different types of sounds that can be created by hitting the drum in different places and ways. Afterwards we put the beats and sounds together to create a song. We also played some games using the drums! We learned lots of musical terms including dynamics, bass, call and respond. It was great fun!

Crazy Hair Day

To support Ruby as she donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust, everyone in school donated £1 each and wore their hair in crazy and unusual styles! It was great fun and a wonderful way to support Ruby and this fantastic charity.

Golden Time

To celebrate the sunny weather we had our Golden Time outside! It was great fun enjoying the sun and playing together!

Art and Saint Patrick’s Day

To celebrate St. Patrick’s Day we created some shamrock art using chalk and negative space. The children cut out their shamrock template and used chalk to create a gradient of colours. Come and see!

BEE SAFE EVENT: P7

On Friday, 8th March children in Primary 7 visited the BEE Safe event in Newry Leisure Centre. This was a proactive, multi-agency community safety initiative for children in Primary 7 to help them prepare for the move to secondary school. Representatives from the PSNI, NI Fire and Rescue Service, Translink and others gave talks and presentations on safety and how to react in dangerous situations. It was a wonderful day and the children learned lots!

World Book Day

P6/7 had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day! All the children dressed up as a character from a book and participated in the parade. Some children made book recommendations to the class and after break we took part in a ‘Where’s Wally? Hunt’. We had a great day!

Pancake Tuesday

We celebrated Pancake Tuesday in style! Delicious! Thanks, Mrs Hunter!

Taster Day at Newry High School

Today, 13th January, children in Primary 6 and 7 visited Newry High School. The children participated in four exciting lessons designed to give them a taste of the different subjects they can experience in secondary school. We took part in an ‘Escape Room’ challenge in Maths, Geography, Home Economics and PE. The lessons were very interesting and the children had a wonderful day!
Thank you to the staff and children at Newry High School!

Izak9

For Numeracy today, 10th January, we used Izak9 to complete some number investigations. We worked in groups to build a wall of consecutive numbers, then we totalled the rows and columns. In our groups we found prime and square numbers, we also converted percentages into fractions. It was great fun and we can’t wait to use Izak9 again next week!

Christmas Party

We celebrated the end of a successful term with a class party! We played party games, danced and ate some delicious treats! Happy Christmas, everyone!

Internet Safety Workshops

Today (17th December) children in P6 and P7 participated in two internet safety workshops. We learned about our digital footprint, privacy settings and the ‘Billboard Test’. These are questions to ask ourselves before we post anything on line:

1. Will it embarrass me?
2. Will it embarrass someone else?
3. Will it hurt someone?
4. Will it impact me in the future?

We learned about cyber bullying and that if we are upset about something online we should talk to a trusted adult.

Santa Daily Mile

We had so much fun participating in the Santa Daily Mile! 🎄😀

WW2 The Home Front

Today, 12th November, P6/7 visited the museum in Armagh and participated in a workshop all about WW2. We got to hold artefacts from the time and work as detectives to determine what they were used for. Afterwards we learned about The Evacuation, Propaganda and Rationing - we were shocked by the small amount of food each person was allowed! Finally we made our very own gas mask!  It was very interesting and we’re looking forward to our new topic!

The Vikings Workshop

Today, 18th October, P6/7 visited the Newry and Mourne Museum and participated in a workshop all about the Vikings! We met Freya who told us about life in a Viking settlement. We learned about Viking trade, battle and weapons! It was great fun!

At the end of our trip we were complimented on our Viking knowledge, our behaviour and our interest in the workshop! Well done P6/7!

Outside Learning

Today, Wednesday 18th September, P6/7 took their learning outdoors! We are learning about myths. Today we worked with a partner to read a Viking myth and identify the features of myth such as: good versus bad, magical creatures, different worlds or lands. We decided to complete our work outside in the sunshine. We read and discussed the myth with a partner before returning indoors to see how many features we correctly identified. It was fun to work outside and with a partner!

Orienteering trip to Gosford

On Tuesday 17th September, we visited Gosford forest park and learned to read maps, use a compass and make our way through the forest. We worked in teams to find a number of markers in the woods and ‘check in’ using a walkie-talkie! It was great fun, especially as we had a beautiful sunny day!
